Animal Control

Animal Control provides pickup services of stray, abandoned, unwanted, and dead animals, mostly domestic animals such as cats and dogs. We answer all complaints regarding barking dogs, dogs at large, nuisance and neglect, and provide the public with information regarding licensing, and various laws regarding their animals.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q. What can be done about cats?
A. Cats can be trapped with live traps that we loan out or with your own live trap. Cats must be contained for us to pick them up.
 
Q. Why are there no leash laws on cats?
A. Because they are useful in controlling the rodent population.
 
Q. What can be done about barking dogs?
A. Call in the complaint at the time it is happening. We will start with a warning. If the problem persists, we will cite the dog owner into court, provided the RP is willing to testify in court.
 
Q. How much are dog licenses?
A. $5.00 a year for altered dogs and $20.00 a year for unaltered dogs.
 
Q. What are shelter hours?
A. The office is open from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The kennels for viewing are 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. These hours are Monday through Saturday except holidays.
 
Q. How long are animals held at the shelter?
A. If it is an owner give up, it could be held 1 day or more depending on the amount of room we have. Sometimes they can't be held at all. If the animal is a stray without tags - 3 days. An animal with tags - 7 days.
